Well, I did it.  I cancelled my Twitter account.  Sorry Jamie.  I haven’t used twitter in over a month because I just lost interest.  I had a hard time finding people who were interesting to follow.  When I posted something, no one ever responded.  So, through the suggestion of Lori, Emily and Carol I tried Plurk.  I was struck by how caring everyone was.  Someone says “Good morning” and 12 people say good morning back.  It is much more personal and interesting than my time on Twitter.  As far as the whole Karma thing goes, I get it.  It is just that little extra push you need to actually participate and not just be a bystander, which by instinct I would rather be.  As far as it being beneficial as a teacher, it definitely is.  I have found other teacher’s blogs to read and other articles and information I never would have heard of if it wasn’t for a networking tool like this.  Just like everything else in life, it is what you make it.  Happy New Year!  We all need a new start.

I just got done signing up for diigo.com and spending some time searching for resources to bookmark. One site which I found was twitter4teachers. I am one of those people who are still not 100% sold on the value of twitter for teaching. I did sign my name to a list of science teachers and middle school teachers who use twitter. I am hoping that this site will help me to find and connect with other teachers who have the same interests as I do. It might be a site worth looking at. http://twitter4teachers.pbwiki.com/FrontPage

I was recently introduced to “plurking” and at this point, I am learning more from reading other people’s plurks and plurking myself than on Twitter.  I’m not so sure about the whole “Karma” thing, but do like the suggestions I’ve gotten.  I never seem to get a response on Twitter when I post a question.  Was wondering if anyone else uses Plurk and if so, which do you find to be more useful?

While plurking (similar to twittering) today, this voice mail was shared – http://voicethread.com/share/283273/

I thought this idea could easily be adapted in the classroom.  I know many of the elementary teachers have students write about their family’s holiday traditions.  Wouldn’t this be a great way to share with everyone?
